Syed Ahmad Quadri AN INTRODUCTION OF SYED AHMAD QUADRI By: Sheeren Akhter(Kolkata) In the field of (Urdu) fiction, critical essays and journalism the name of Dr. Syed Ahmad Quadri stands distinctively whose creative genius and maturity of vision has attracted attention of numerous critics of distinction. In recognition of the services rendered by Dr. Quadri in the field of (Urdu) literature, the Govt. of India in their Ministry of Culture awarded him a Emeritus fellow-ship award in the year 1992. Three years later, the K.K. Birla Foundation (Hindustan Times Group) also awarded a fellow-ship in 1995 to Dr. Quadri for journalism which was, perhaps, the first ever honor awarded to any journalist of Urdu language in the country. Not only this-the Times of India (Patna Edition) made a special mention of Dr. Quadri for the "achievements of a Bihari in 1995" and was also honored by American Biographical Institute (U.S.A.) as "Man of the year (1998)".The Bihar urdu academy, uttar Pradesh urdu academy and west Bengal urdu academy also awarded the several Books. Dr Quadri book Title “ URDU SAHAFAT BIHAR ME’’ included in syllabus in universities of Bihar. Several prominent and distinguished personalities suggested compilation of some selected sketches, interviews, appreciations and articles related to the personality and works of such a renowned and popular literary figure, which are spread over hundreds of pages of scores of journal of repute. I am myself more attracted to fictional literature and above all I had an opportunity to study from a close range the dynamic personality and invaluable literary writings of Dr. Quadri as I was associated with him as a Foundation Assistant while he was working on the project under K.K. Birla Foundation's Fellowship. Consequently, in deference to the wishes of my elders, I started sorting out some critical articles, impacts, sketches and interviews and have ventured to bring out this compilation. I do hope that this compilation will prove beneficial to the innumerable 'Fans' of Dr. Quadri in and outside the country in understanding the various facets of Mr. Quadri's personality and literary works. And a few words about the contents — a study of (Late) Shahanshah Mirza and Nisar Ahmad Siddiqui's interviews and shafaq's sketch will provide the readers not only an insight of the dignified and pleasing personality of Dr. Syed Ahmad Quadri but also his approach to literature. The articles and critical studies by Shamsur-Rahman Farooqui, Tara Charan Rastogi, Asghar Ali Engineer, Kalam Haidri, Abdul Moghni, Wahab Ashrafi, Saraswati Saran Kaif,Dr M Q Khan,Prof Alimullah Hali,Ram Lal,Jogendra Paul,Wari Alwi, Moin Shahid, Manazir Ashique Harganwi,Mushtaque Ahmad Noori and others have dealt at length the dexterity of Dr. Quadri and his arrant grasp of the subjects he selects for his writings. This compilation will appear to have scaled down the tradition of worshipping only the dead souls but it was a necessity so as to put a seal of recognition of a fiction writer, critic and journalist, Dr. Syed Ahmad Quadri's literary services who is engaged in serving Urdu language and literature and for which he has devoted his life.
